January 08, 2007 - January bug fixed!
There was a bug in many older
Syncaphone client applications. This "January bug" makes impossible to
run the Syncaphone application on the mobile phone.
The "January bug" was caused by the wrong usage of the calendar
libraries. The fixed clients (1.41) versions are available for
download. The fixed clients are available either for all customers not
only for the ones with pending upgrade protection.
The new clients are available for download as a zip file with two
directories:
jad and jar. To deploy new clients please do following:
- download and unzip clients.zip
- copy all *.jad files to the .../webapps/z/jad/ directory
- copy all *.jar files to the .../webapps/z/ directory
No need to restart Tomcat - new clients are available for download
immediately after the deployment.
Of course new clients are also available through DOWNLOAD UPGRADE
option.

April 10, 2006 - The arrival of GroupWise Mobile Server (Powered by Intellisync) and the future of Syncaphone.
Novell GroupWise Mobile Server (powered by Intellisync) will be available soon.
The decision of Novell to add mobile solution to the GroupWise 7.0 SP 1 is very important for Indepentent Software Vendors providing GroupWise mobility products.
GroupWise Mobile Server powered by Intellisync is a completely different concept than Syncaphone. Let's try to compare both concepts:
GroupWise Mobile Server advantages:
- based on open standards (OMA - SyncML)
- 400 devices supported
- push feature for email
- syncs phone's contacts and calendar with GroupWise bi-directionally
GroupWise Mobile Server disadvantages:
- requires separate server
- requires Windows 2003 now (or SUSE Linux in the half of the year future)
- will never be ported to NetWare
- every phone has another user interface (only native phones applications supported), no GroupWise alike client - steep learning curve for users
- binary XML used for SyncML is slow and uses more bandwidth
- only GW 7.0 SP 1 (not released yet) supported
Syncaphone advantages:
- can run on NetWare, Linux (Windows could be)
- no additional server and OS required
- can be deployed on existing GroupWise installation
- GroupWise client with similar behavior and installation on every phone (flat and short learning curve)
- double functionality (GROUPWISE client and one - direction syncing solution)
- very fast and efficient communication protocol
- small cost of maintenance
- GW 6.0, 6.5 , 7.0 supported
Syncaphone disadvantages:
- smaller amount of devices covered
- proprietary solution
- no bidirectional syncing of native phone's contacts and calendar
We believe that Syncaphone is still an interesting offer.
It is a cheap and convenient solution for small and medium organizations.
Syncaphone is an innovative software with many unique features.
As a Progra team (software company developing Syncaphone) we would like to confirm our commitment to develop and support Syncaphone for Novell GroupWise.
March 28, 2006 - Version 1.30 of Syncaphone will be released April 10, 2006.
The Syncaphone team would like to apologize for any inconvenience this delay may cause to our customers.
March 06, 2006 - Syncaphone 1.30 release postponed by one month
The release of the new version of Syncaphone is postponed by one
month. A few new features will be added and the version of the incoming
release is 1.30.
The implementation of requested features and the need of the thorough
testing is the reason of the delay.
Following features were requested by Syncaphone customers and testers
and these features are planned to be added to the 1.30 release:
- possibility of searching stored contacts while creating new mail, appointment, note task
- the more efficient and faster (one-directional) synchronization of the phone's calendar and contacts
- possibility of using https connection between Syncaphone server part and GroupWise webaccess

April 10, 2005 - Syncaphone client for Nokia 6310i released!
This popular in many enterprises phone can run GroupWise!
It is probably the smallest GroupWise client application in the world (less than 30kB!).
Syncaphone client for Nokia 6310i due to very limited memory and application size restricted to 30kB, has less features than client applications for other phones.
Nevertheless it is possible to check mailbox, and today's calendar items, compose, reply and send emails.
Syncaphone for Nokia 6310i is a good starting point for further mobile GroupWise experience powered by Syncaphone!
