  1. I successfully installed Syncaphone client on my Nokia E70 but I am not able to login to my server. I always get CONNECTION ERROR! I am sure that my GPRS and connection settings are correct - because I can surf web using my mobile web browser.

There are problems with communication with the server or your password is not valid, please try once again, in the case of errors, please restart Syncaphone!". I am sure that my password is correct.

I successfully installed Syncaphone client on my Nokia E70 but I am not able to login to my server. I always get CONNECTION ERROR! I am sure that my GPRS and connection settings are correct - because I can surf web using my mobile web browser.

Please go to the ADVANCED SETTINGS screen of your application. Please read the server address and the port number. If the server address is: "Application has to be downloaded from the server" - you need to install once again. The "Application has to be downloaded from the server" is a special warning showing that the server address is missing in the Syncaphone jad file. It may be caused by two reasons:

  • the Syncaphone client was not downloaded from http://.../z/d webpage;
  • the Syncaphone installation was done using ony *.jar file ( Both *.jad and *jar files are necessary);
To fix this please uninstall current version of Syncaphone and please download it from http://.../z/d. If the installations starts immediately no matter you choose *.jad or *.jar file - please download *.jad file only. The *.jar file will be downloaded by the installer. Start application and go to ADVANCED SETTINGS screen if you can see the appropriate address of your server or the IP number - you will be able to login to the server.

The "Error -125" can be caused by following problems:

  • there are no connection between Syncaphone server part and the GroupWise Webaccess;
  • the GroupWise password is not correct,
  • there are problems with encryption keys (the encryption key of the client application does not fit to the encryption key of the server part),
The most common reason of this error for NetWare servers is lack of HTTP connection on 127.0.0.1 (local loopback). 127.0.0.1 is the default GWserver address for Syncaphone installations. Sometimes it is impossible to establish connection using this address. You should to use another IP address of GroupWise Webaccess server to resolve this problem. For example you can use the same IP address as external_host. Go to the Syncaphone web admin pane and go to application and then web.xml, click on the GWserver link and put new value of address and then press send button. Application will restart with the new parameters.

Apache server redirects all requests from port 80 to port 443 ( https ). How to configure Syncaphone without opening any additional port?

The port 80 is perfect for Syncaphone communication because it is supported by almost all WAP gateways. In this case the redirection will NOT make possible to run Syncaphone in standard configuration. The additional steps are necessary to configure Syncaphone server part in the appropriate way.

  1. while installing Syncaphone in the Nonstandard Installation Parameters please set Tomcat as standalone 8080 as a Tomcat port number
  2. start Tomcat after installation
  3. go to Syncaphone Web Administration Panel application -> web.xml
  4. select external port and put 80 here and then click SEND
Tomcat will restart automatically with new settings. Now the external Syncaphone communication is at port 80 and . Tomcat port 8080 is not available from the outside. Tomcat port 8080 communication is used only for Syncaphone and webaccess data exchange. Opening port 8080 for internal use is necessary to bypass Apache redirection. This configuration is safe and convenient ? mobile devices can communicate with the server using port 80 but webaccess is not available through port 80.

I am using Syncaphone on SonyEricsson K750i and I can download only 80 GroupWise contacts. How can I download more than 80 GroupWise contacts?

Due to limitation of CPU and memory of the phone - the maximum amount of contacts downloaded is limited. The general principle is that amximum amount of contacts is two times bigger than the maximum amount of calendar items . It is possible to get more GroupWise contacts but the probability of the application crash is higher. To get more GroupWise contacts following steps are necessary:

  1. on the  phone  Syncaphone application go to settings
  2. maximum amount of calendar items set 100 instead of 40 ( example for SonyEricsson K750i)
  3. send server settings
  4. wait 10 minutes or check at web admin panel if the device is inactive ( grey instead of yellow ) 
  5. sync contacts once again
  6. choose Address Book
  7. you will get 200 contacts
